In addition to handmade scrunchies and bracelets, Mae-Lilly has also been offering jewelry for a while now, which we select for you with great love and attention. We regularly receive questions via chat and our social media about the material and durability of Mae-Lilly Jewelry, so we thought: it's time for a blog with all the ins and outs!
Stainless steel material
The vast majority of our jewelry is made of stainless steel material, a term you've probably heard of. Stainless steel is an alloy of iron, chromium, and carbon. The advantages of stainless steel:
- Is very strong, but at the same time also lightweight
- Does not scratch easily
- Easy to maintain
- Does not discolour
- Often also nickel free
- Has a beautiful shine which gives it a luxurious look
- Is hypoallergenic (100% allergy free)
- Recyclable
- Durable
However, with stainless steel jewelry you have to be careful with chlorine, which can affect it. All necklaces , earrings , rings and bracelets on our website state whether they are made of stainless steel or not.

How to keep your jewelry beautiful!
If your favorite must-haves are not made of stainless steel, there are a few tips to ensure they stay beautiful for longer:- Remove your jewelry during sports, sleeping and showering
- Take them off when applying products such as make-up, perfume, cream or hairspray or when cleaning
- Store jewelry in a dry place (preferably not in the bathroom) and store it in a closed box so that it does not discolour due to sunlight or humidity
A few more helpful tips
Also good to know: sometimes the pH value of the skin can also influence whether or not jewelry discolors. If your jewelry is not made of stainless steel material, it is best not to wear it day and night but to take it off regularly.
What you can do to prevent discoloration is to apply a layer of transparent nail polish to your ring, for example. This way, the ring does not come into direct contact with your skin, but there is a protective layer between it, so to speak. You will have to apply a new layer every now and then, but hey, your favorite ring will last a little longer!
